CranioSacral therapy is a very gentle hands-on holistic therapy which embraces physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of the individual. It uses light touch to uncover, evaluate and facilitate the release of subtle causes of ill health and dysfunction.

The scope of CranioSacral therapy is enormous as it deals with the long term effects of accident, surgery, inflammatory conditions, birth injury and emotional problems.

The CranioSacral System

The craniosacral system includes the brain, spinal cord, meningeal membranes, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and the bones of the head and spine. The meningeal membranes surround the brain and spinal cord and provide a waterproof container for the CSF. Cerebrospinal fluid bathes, nourishes and protects the brain and spinal cord.

When fluid is fed into the system the whole body internally rotates and widens, and when it is resorbed back into the venous system the body rotates and narrows. These are very subtle movements, and can be palpated as the widening and narrowing motion of the craniosacral rhythm at all levels of the body. The craniosacral rhythm persists throughout life and has a rate of 6-12 cycles per minute in a healthy adult. The craniosacral system is continuous with the fascial system, enabling access to any part of the body during treatment.
